I'm always eagerly awaiting my yearly dose of Roy Grace ever since I first started reading them during the series infancy - I was always going to be hooked on a crime drama set in my hometown of Brighton。Having really grown attached to the characters over the years, the emotional impact that Roy and Cleo face in this outing will have repercussions in future books - these sections were so difficult to get though。The case itself made a welcome distraction as Niall Paternoster becomes the prime sus I'm always eagerly awaiting my yearly dose of Roy Grace ever since I first started reading them during the series infancy - I was always going to be hooked on a crime drama set in my hometown of Brighton。Having really grown attached to the characters over the years, the emotional impact that Roy and Cleo face in this outing will have repercussions in future books - these sections were so difficult to get though。The case itself made a welcome distraction as Niall Paternoster becomes the prime suspect in the potential murder of his wife Eden who has gone without a trace。I really like from the outset that we see the married couple bickering about the most mundane issue of cat litter。Having dropped her in Tesco's car park, Niall gets increasingly frustrated that she hasn't returned half hour later as he wants to catch the end of the Grand Prix。From the outset the reader knows that Niall couldn't have possibly have done it but the amount of evidence against him soon piles up - not helped that there was already cat litter in the family home along with a plethora of true crime DVDs and books。Both the reader and the police are baffled as all the evidence points to him having done it。。。All the signature elements that makes this series great is included - I always enjoy Norman Potting's ill timed quips whilst Grace and ACC Cassian Pewe's frosty relationship is also explored。Whilst the Sussex backdrop continues to play an important role - though a minor quibble that the layout in Brighton's Royal Sussex County Hospital didn't quite tally with my own experiences (there's a separate Children's department - Royal Alexander) it didn't detract from another memorable and gripping story。Roll on Book 18! 。。。more

On the whole, dull, although better written than many of the earlier books in this series。

Audio version of this book 📚- This book was a little bit different to the others in the series as the majority of the book deals with Roy Graces personal life, and the dilemma he has to deal with。 As regards to the plot, it was full of twists and turns and had me totally gripped, another great addition to this series

I can't believe we have reached Book 17 of this fantastic series。 I've not read 17 books of anything else, or even close to that number。 That's probably because it's consistently both easy and well-written。 And LEFT YOU DEAD is no exception, despite the plot being a little bit predictable。 I had pretty much worked out what had happened at the beginning of the book。 But even then, the author still managed to swerve me a little at the end。 The Roy Grace series is just brilliant。 Heavily researched I can't believe we have reached Book 17 of this fantastic series。 I've not read 17 books of anything else, or even close to that number。 That's probably because it's consistently both easy and well-written。 And LEFT YOU DEAD is no exception, despite the plot being a little bit predictable。 I had pretty much worked out what had happened at the beginning of the book。 But even then, the author still managed to swerve me a little at the end。 The Roy Grace series is just brilliant。 Heavily researched and intriguing in its attention to detail when it comes to day to day procedure, I was surprised at how fascinating and surprising I found it all。 The author achieves this by utilizing hard-bolied noir and bonk-buster techniques in his writing to keep you hooked。 The characters he has created are well crafted and sympathetic, which makes you really want to get to know them。 To the point where you just cant put the book down。 The book's read like film scripts sometimes, something the author knows a lot about, which makes it such easy and entertaining reading, full of plot twists turns and cliff hangers。 Try the series but start at the beginning, just because not only are they great stand alone stories, but the magic is in the back story, the adventure and the intrigue。Highly recommended。 。。。more

Possibly the best book in the series to date。 The tension is palpable but be prepared for some heartbreak along the way。

An impressive return to form for this series after the disappointing #16。 Had me in tears at one point。 Good to see closure of a couple of the long running story arcs。 As has been mentioned in other reviews there is a lot of repetition hence 4 stars instead of 5。 Surprised at the mistaken switch of rank for Branson in the final chapters, an unexpected error for a book of this calibre, proof readers do your job! Can’t wait to see what happens next。

Peter James has a knack for creating realistic characters that feel like mates or neighbours。 He has a flair for writing about the human condition, society, and how our history shapes us in such a flawless way you feel as though you're working these things out about these invented people yourself。 The story just flows because if it。 I thought I had this book all worked out and was gob-smacked by the revelation towards the end。 I absolutely loved this book! But there were a couple of things that niggled。 There was no need to repeat 11 times that Eden was missing, or the circumstances surrounding her disappearance。 And the add-on of a potential plot for the next book appeared quite randomly in a chapter of its own with no prior suggestion and only one mention much later on when I'd almost forgotten about it。 I felt this could have been woven into the novel much better by evenly spreading it throughout in little increments。 Having said that I'll look forward to the next one, as always。 I'm a recent fan。 And I'm so glad I found this authors works when I did。 。。。more

I have really enjoyed the Roy Grace series and was thrilled to see a new one arrive。 It was good but didn’t quite match up to the previous novels for me。 Well worth reading but somehow not quite the same standard as the others。

This series started off being a bit scary then went through a very scary and gory (almost horrific) phase but recently has been less so, thankfully。 Still criminal, suspensful and thrilling but not as graphic。 I prefer this and feel better recommending to friends who also avoid the more graphic books/authors。 Some friends won't even try them because of the earlier ones, which is a huge shame because there has always been so much else going on。 Character back stories, team building, personal live This series started off being a bit scary then went through a very scary and gory (almost horrific) phase but recently has been less so, thankfully。 Still criminal, suspensful and thrilling but not as graphic。 I prefer this and feel better recommending to friends who also avoid the more graphic books/authors。 Some friends won't even try them because of the earlier ones, which is a huge shame because there has always been so much else going on。 Character back stories, team building, personal lives etc。 I've read every one to date, in order and it's become my favourite series。The last one, #16 was a bit of a disppointment for me (see my review of Find Them Dead here https://www。goodreads。com/review/show。。。)。 So, whilst I have eagerly waited for a year with a little wariness over the last one, I downloaded this one on the day of publication and got started that night。And he's back! Thank goodness the series is back on track in every way possible。 So, a good plot with a missing wife。 Did husband kill her, has she been abducted, runaway and hiding out somewhere? Plenty of clues and evidence for all of these theories that make you believe them all till some other evidence turns up, but circumstantial and teasingly inconclusive。 Lots of personal life progress, a unexpected family crisis which is handled very well。 (Not the kind of crisis I had thought it was heading for which I personally think is a lost opportunity for a budding serial killer)! Plenty of time with Roy and Cleo。 Also a welcome return to recurring team characters as well as introduction to a couple of new ones。 Glad to see lots more banter between Grace and Branson, despite everything else happening。 Even some progress in the relationship between Grace and Pewe, with a very satisfying conclusion。Still has the standard explanations of acronyms and specific roles of official characters which I actually enjoy and learn from as it validates the reasons for them being included。 Also an insight into all the resources the police force actually consists of and uses。 My only picky little thing and the reason I've give 4 stars (4。75 actually) is that in some parts what the police know and the evidence gathered so far is very repetitive。 Branson tells Roy, Roy tells Pewe, Branson tells the team, all repeated to the suspect at home, the suspect and his solicitor in police interviews etc, in full! But I guess you can skim those bits (I don't in case I miss something new)! Finally, the next time someone had to be told all the aforesaid, the author used the "updated him/her on the evidence so far"。 Phew! This is my favourite series and, like many others, I've been in a long reading slump so couldn't wait for this one。 I started that evening and was hooked in immediately, knowing it was back on form。 I wanted to get to it every free moment I had but I deliberately paced myself! Nearing the end, I didn't want to finish it。 Just wanted it to keep going。 But it's definitely gotten me out of my reading slump and is a true return to form of my much beloved series。 Can't wait for the next one which I thought, frustratingly, I'd have to wait another year for。 But Fantastic Fiction has just shown another new Quick Reads novella "Wish You Were Dead" due out on May 27。 Am exited again! Well done Peter!! 。。。more

Another great read from the master Peter James! I'm a great fan of the Roy Grace series and this book did not disappoint。 A woman disappears into thin air。 She was just running into a store for some cat litter while her husband was waiting in the car。 Did her husband have something to do with it or is he innocent? Very quickly the evidence starts piling up against him。 How will this play out? The story seems quite straight forward but then the curveball hits you and you think duh。。。。。。。I should Another great read from the master Peter James! And finally。。。。。。。 Will he get rid of the thorn in his side Cassia Pewe? To end off with the quote from Chuck Palahniuk: “It's so hard to forget pain, but it's even harder to remember sweetness。 We have no scar to show for happiness。 We learn so little from peace。” Thank you to NetGalley and Pan MacMillan for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion 。。。more

The latest Peter James Roy Grace novel。 I enjoyed it, but there's so much going on that it was hard to keep up with all the plot lines。 And we were left wondereing what the future is for Grace and his family, but I suppose that keeps something back for the next in the series。 The latest Peter James Roy Grace novel。 I enjoyed it, but there's so much going on that it was hard to keep up with all the plot lines。 And we were left wondereing what the future is for Grace and his family, but I suppose that keeps something back for the next in the series。 。。。more

As usual a great and engrossing read。 Only 4 stars because the twists and turns of the plot were more predictable than some of the previous books。 Roy Grace's personal life is as fascinating as previously, but for very different reasons。 Recommended not only as part of an exceptional series but also as a stand alone for new readers。 As usual a great and engrossing read。 Only 4 stars because the twists and turns of the plot were more predictable than some of the previous books。 Roy Grace's personal life is as fascinating as previously, but for very different reasons。 Recommended not only as part of an exceptional series but also as a stand alone for new readers。 。。。more

I can't believe that this is the 17th Roy Grace novel 😯 the last one Find Them Dead wasn't for me as it was mainly set inside a court room, which I find dull 🥱 so starting this was n't with my usual enthusiasm but I needn't have worried as a thoroughly enjoyed this 🤗 a good mystery with twists and turns and a plot twist I didn't see coming 😯 Without giving any spoliers a woman leaves her husband parked up in a Tesco's car park whilst she bobs in for a bag of cat litter and doesn't return 😲 Along I can't believe that this is the 17th Roy Grace novel 😯 the last one Find Them Dead wasn't for me as it was mainly set inside a court room, which I find dull 🥱 so starting this was n't with my usual enthusiasm but I needn't have worried as a thoroughly enjoyed this 🤗 a good mystery with twists and turns and a plot twist I didn't see coming 😯 Without giving any spoliers a woman leaves her husband parked up in a Tesco's car park whilst she bobs in for a bag of cat litter and doesn't return 😲 Along comes Grace and his team, to investigate。 Coinciding with the investigation you also follow along with Roy's life story and you do find yourself invested, I'm looking forward to the next instalment already 🙂 。。。more

He's done it again。。。!He's done it again, written a rollercoaster of a book, which grabs you right from the start。 Thoroughly enjoyable。 I'll not put in any spoilers here, but it is with relief, hopefully, of an end to a character that I totally despised。。。。。 Heartily recommend this book to all Peter James fans。 He's done it again。。。!He's done it again, written a rollercoaster of a book, which grabs you right from the start。 Thoroughly enjoyable。 I'll not put in any spoilers here, but it is with relief, hopefully, of an end to a character that I totally despised。。。。。 Heartily recommend this book to all Peter James fans。 。。。more
